Tom Wagner to lead MCI Public Sector

SCHAUMBURG, IL — August 31, 2011 — Motor Coach Industries (MCI) has announced that Tom Wagner, Director of Business Development for MCI Public Sector, will lead the division. Wagner, who joined MCI Public Sector in 2005, will report to Rick Heller, President and CEO of MCI. The move follows the July 28 announcement that Michael Melaniphy, Vice President of MCI Public Sector, will leave the company September 2 to become President and CEO of the American Public Transportation Association (APTA).

MCI Public Sector markets the Buy-America compliant and Altoona-tested Commuter Coach for transit and government uses. It also serves specialty markets with the MCI® J4500 University coach and the MCI Inmate Security Transportation Vehicle (ISTV).

Wagner has been overseeing Public Sector's sales force and specialty markets since he was promoted to his current position in 2009. His recent accomplishments include the market launch of MCI's newest-generation CNG Commuter Coach and the 84-unit CNG MCI Commuter Coach order from LADOT. In his new role, Wagner will now have additional responsibility for the division's operations and support staff. "We anticipate a seamless transition due to Tom's experience and drive," said Heller. "He and his team are dedicated to furthering our growth in this important business segment."

Wagner joined MCI after a career in technology for transit and government agencies, and was initially responsible for the Western territory, which includes all states west of the Mississippi and Western Canada. Wagner holds a bachelor's degree in marketing and economics from Northern Illinois University.

MCI has been serving the Public Sector markets for the past three decades with its Commuter Coach model that lures commuters from behind the wheels of their cars with a comfortable ride, upscale image and accessibility.

Transit agencies with MCI commuter coach fleets include New York City Transit/MTA, New Jersey Transit, Houston Metro, State of New Hampshire, AC Transit in Oakland, California, Denver RTD, Golden Gate Transit in San Francisco and Georgia Regional Transit Authority. The MCI coaches also contribute to the fleets of the U.S. Army, Navy, Marines, ICE, Bureau of Prisons, Department of Energy and other government agencies. MCI also serves county, state and federal prisons with an ISTV, which is essentially designed as a prison on wheels.
